Description

Free for 18 - 30 year olds living in Bristol*.

Come and learn how to design, make and sell laser-cut jewellery in this free five day course at Knowle West Media Centre: The Factory. As well as developing digital and making skills, you will be introduced to other key aspects of starting your own creative business.

Over the four workshops you will:

— Explore a variety of techniques for designing & making using digital manufacturing

— Be inspired by other local creatives

— Develop your making skills by creating your own jewellery collection

— Be introduced to local networks and other opportunities

— Learn what it takes to start your own creative small business

You must be available to attend all the workshops.

The course will finish with the opportunity to sell your work at a market in Bristol – all with the ongoing support and guidance of KWMC staff.

Discover platforms for selling
Make and package your first products

Sunday 19th August
Have the opportunity to display and sell your work at the Tobacco Factory Sunday Market
Chat one-on-one about your business ideas and other opportunities through KWMC

FAQs

*If the course is free how come I have to pay a £15 deposit?

We want to ensure that people attend all of the sessions, so we are taking a deposit that will be refunded upon your completion of the course. You can cancel your place and receive a full refund up to 7 days before the start of the couse. Do let us know if you have a real problem attending any of the sessions but still would like to participate, and we can discuss options to enable you to attend the course.

I can't afford to pay the deposit, can I still participate?

We never want to turn away because of lack of funds - if you are unable to pay for the deposit, please get in touch with Fiona at KWMC: The Factory to discuss your options - email fiona@kwmc.org.uk or call 0117 403 2306.

Do I need to bring anything to the workshops?

All materials will be provided for you. Please make sure you bring lunch with you - there is no cafeteria on site.

Can anyone attend the course?

Unfortunately this course is only for 18 - 30 year olds living in Bristol. If you are outside of this age range but interested in attending a training course at The Factory, please get in touch.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the workshops?

There is a car park and bike shed at Filwood Green Business Park. By bus, you can catch the number 90, 50 or 50A (all operated by First) from the centre of town, alight at Willinton Road or Hengrove Bus Depot and walk along Hengrove Way to the business park.

Accessibility

Filwood Green Business Park is fully accessible for wheelchair users and can cater for anyone with other specific access requirements.

The session on Friday 13th July will be offsite and involve travelling down Gloucestor Road on foot - visiting shops and attending another workshop space. Please let us know if you have any questions about this.

Our staff are not BSL trained, however we can book an interpretor via Bristol City Council. When booking your place on the course, please let us know any requirements.

We can provide worksheets in large print.

Personal assistants are welcome to attend the workshops with you, please let us know in advance.
